Targeted Materials

There are four separate targeted material categories for Paper, Corrugated Cardboard, Cans and Bottles and Food Service Organics. Each functions similar to the Per Capita Classic, where a college's total weight of a given material will be divided by population and ranked on a per capita basis.

Paper

The following materials are included in the paper category:

  • Boxboard / chipboard
  • Catalogs
  • Hard and softbound books
  • Junk mail
  • Magazines
  • Newspaper
  • Office Paper(all colors)
  • Phone books

RecycleMania will calculate your results using the following equation:

Weight of Paper Collected from Entire Campus or Specified Area of Campus divided by Population Figure*

 

Corrugated Cardboard

The following materials are included in the corrugated cardboard category:

  • Baled and unbaled cardboard boxes
  • Boxboard / chipboard

RecycleMania will calculate your results using the following equation:

Weight of Corrugated Cardboard Collected from Entire Campus or Specified Area of Campus divided by Population Figure*

 

Bottles and Cans

The following materials are included in the bottles and cans category:

  • #1 through #7 Plastic (e.g., soda, water, juice, beer, laundry detergent bottles)
  • Aluminum cans
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Steel cans

Weight of Bottles and Cans Collected from Entire Campus or Specified Area of Campus divided by Population Figure*

Food Service Organics

The following materials are included in the food service organics category:

  • Pre and post-consumer food waste
  • Compostable dinnerware, napkins, etc.

Note: Food waste is only included in this targeted material category and is not included in the Per Capita Classic or any other main categories.
