2016 "Waste Less - Promote More" Case Studies

Congratulations to the following winners of the 2016 "Waste Less - Promote More: Engagement and Innovation Competition," a partnership between RecycleMania and the National Wildlife Federation. 

2016 Participants

 

SUNY Oswego collaborated with outside resources to endorse the utilization of reusable cups and bottles.  Students and the campus community kept track of the plastic they saved through a mobile application.

North Lake College expanded their outreach efforts beyond their sustainability community and involved the arts, sciences, and leadership departments of their school.  Art students upcycled waste into projects, science students participated in a waste assessment lab, and leadership employees partook in a creek clean up service day.

UC San Diego's 8 week challenge focused on new weekly themes including: plastic, batteries, fashion, waste reduction, upcycling, and campus resources.  Events ranged from sustainability fashion show to battery recycling drive.  Social media was utilized to advertise the programs and encourage participation.

Arizona State University hosted a variety of promotional activities to appeal to their diverse demographic ranging from a Zero Waste Staff BBQ to a Post Landfill Action Network Presentation and Workshop.  All of these educational events, presentations, initiatives, and programs were aimed to encourage the reduction of waste amongst their campus community.

El Paso Community College focused on expanding the language we use to promote “green efforts.” Using different themes (Star Wars, Valentine’s Day, and the 50th Super Bowl) they collected data based on the number of submissions they received in response to their three competitions.
